If we read the news we can see MyCognition being scientifically recognised as the best cognitive health app of the year in 2020, completing successful clinical trials which are opening new frontiers for Parkinson's care and cancer recovery, while being busy in promoting mental health with children at school.
“MyCognition helps the entire family to think faster, focus better, and improve decision-making and memory.” NHS
What's behind all of this?
MyCognition was born eight years ago from the extraordinarily visionary mind of Keiron Sparrowhawk, entrepreneur and Neuroscientist. Coming from a background in medicinal research, Keiron soon realised how much we rely on drugs in tackling the mental health challenges that affect millions of people in the world every day. He’s always believed that, rather than treating the symptoms, which are just the tip of the iceberg, we should target the cognitive roots of the problem in our brain. It was only when Keiron saw a brain scan of people playing a game, that the idea of MyCognition started to come to life. Looking at the different parts of the brain lighting up as they played made him realise the potential games have to enhance our brainpower!
MyCognition began with the idea that games could help people with impairment and conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. Soon it was realised that everyone, regardless of age or health, could benefit from MyCognition, to improve our thinking abilities and, not only to treat but also to prevent mental illness.
How's that possible?
The power behind MyCognition is that all of us have the potential to be better. Regardless of where we start from, there's always a chance to move forward.
MyCognition gives us a snap-shot, at any step of our journey, where we are, how well we’re doing and what our potential is for development. This happens through a clinically proven assessment, MyCQ, which is super simple to complete on our phones or other digital devices.
After discovering our individual starting point, MyCognition gives us AquaSnap, a personalised programme based on our assessment results. Starting from Keiron's insight about brain activity being enhanced by playing games, AquaSnap is a tailored cognitive workout, designed by experts to exercise and stretch our brain in the areas we have the greatest need. Together with an active mindfulness experience, AquaSnap is able to restore our brain and make it more resilient to stress. We can find out how well we’re improving our brainpower by retaking MyCQ assessment at any time.
“MyCognition’s combined assessment-intervention approach is a true differentiator… a few others try to do both; MyCognition is the most comprehensive.” The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Scientific studies with people of varying ages in different settings, including clinics, workplaces, schools, healthcare and local communities, have amazingly all shown that regular engagement with MyCognition over a few months have a direct impact on individual wellbeing and enhance our ability to successfully carry out activities.
There's no magic pill that can make us better within a snap of the fingers. To make a difference, we have to actively commit ourselves. But you'll find how easy it will be to get in the MyCognition flow once you dive into it.
